Insightful info. I found about how men & women use their brains…..

Men Listen, but ONLY with half a brain….

Ever wonder why men appear to be ignoring you? Studies show that they only think with or process with one side of the brain. We as women have a habit of speaking at men instead of to them. When we do this, they appear to ignore us. An example of this type of behavior would be when a woman comes home from shopping. She will come into the house and say something like wheweeeee, those bags are heavy. Or wow, I’ve been gone all day and the trash STILL has not been taken out. Mean while, he’s just sitting on the couch watching football and it appears that he’s ignoring you.

HE’S NOT!

Women, learn to talk to your mates and not at them. They do not process like women. That same woman has not only shopped, but she has already fathomed in her mind what she’s going to cook for Sunday dinner, (it’s Wednesday) what she’s wearing to work tomorrow, she has started dinner for the night, washed a load of clothes, ironed, and cleaned the bathroom, all while talking on the cell phone!

We are able to multi task because we use both sides of our brains at the same time. The above activity would drive a man crazy! Give your mate time to process your comments. He doesn’t think like you! He doesn’t process like you! He can’t shop and have 7 days of meals prepared before they leave the super market. He can’t check the food, iron, and go over homework at the same time. He can’t change a diaper, and answer the phone at the same time. He doesn’t see the trash over flowing while he’s watching TV.

If you learn this basic principal, you will save yourself a lifetime of heartache and arguments. The next time you have bags in the car, say to your mate, ‘honey, when the game is over, would you mind going out to get the bags.? They are a little too heavy for me.’ You can follow with, (after the bags are in the house)…the trash is smelly & over flowing, would you please take it out for me?

Ladies, talk to your man, not at him. He needs time to process. He thinks with one side of his brain at a time. We as women, think with both sides at all times, thus we are the multi taskers.

Men Listen, but With Only Half a Brain

WebMD Health NewsNov. 28, 2000 (Chicago) — Researchers have discovered what women have suspected all along — men listen with one side of their brain, while women listen with both sides. The study was presented here at a meeting of radiologists and looks at how the brain processes information.

“Our research suggests language processing is different between men and women, but it doesn’t necessarily mean performance is going to be different,” says Joseph Lurito, MD, assistant professor of radiology at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. “However, we think there is an underlying difference in the way men process language.”

Lurito recruited 10 men and 10 women — aged 20 to 35 — to spend a few minutes in a MRI machine while listening to a tape of a man reading excerpts from the popular novel, The Partner, by John Grisham. The scan visualizes areas of the brain activated while performing certain tasks.

Lurito found gender differences in an area of the brain called the temporal lobe, located on the side of the head between the eyes and the ears. While listening to the tape, the left side of the men’s brains was far more active than the right side.

But when Lurito looked at women’s brains, both left and right temporal lobes were activated equally, although the left side was slightly more active than the right.

“As scientists, we’re figuring out what normal is, and more and more often, it seems that normal for men may be different than normal for women,” says Michael Phillips, MD, co-author of the study and an assistant professor of radiology.

Hedvig Hricak, MD, chairman of the department of radiology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, says, “Now we have proof that men and women listen differently.”

But the study results have a purpose besides the inherent <leo_highlight style="border-bottom: 2px solid #ffff96; background-color: transparent; background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 50%; -moz-background-size: auto auto; cursor: pointer; display: inline; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial" id="leoHighlights_Underline_0" onclick="leoHighlightsHandleClick('leoHighlights_Underline_0')" onmouseover="leoHighlightsHandleMouseOver('leoHighlights_Underline_0')" onmouseout="leoHighlightsHandleMouseOut('leoHighlights_Underline_0')" leohighlights_keywords="entertainment" leohighlights_url_top="http%3A//shortcuts.thebrowserhighlighter.com/leonardo/plugin/highlights/3_2/tbh_highlightsTop.jsp?keywords%3Dentertainment%26domain%3Dblogs.myspace.com" leohighlights_url_bottom="http%3A//shortcuts.thebrowserhighlighter.com/leonardo/plugin/highlights/3_2/tbh_highlightsBottom.jsp?keywords%3Dentertainment%26domain%3Dblogs.myspace.com" leohighlights_underline="true">entertainment</leo_highlight> value. Hedvig points out, “This type of research is going to allow us to study differences between sexes and point the way for treatment of stroke and other conditions.”

Interestingly, Lurito says the study came about by accident. He and his colleagues were using MRI in people who were being assessed for brain surgery for cancer or epilepsy. They noticed differences in how men and women processed sounds in those exams and decided to do a more formal study.

Lurito says that the study leaves as many questions as it answers. “We don’t know if the difference is because of the way we’re raised, or if it’s hard-wired in the brain,” he says. Also, “We didn’t instruct the subjects to listen carefully or suggest that we would test them for this study, so we do not know if comprehension between the sexes differs,” and not just listening, he says.

But Lurito says there are things they do know. Although the study was performed on relatively young people, he would not expect to see changes as people age because there are few changes in the way the brain processes language as people mature.

In addition, hearing requires both sides of the brain, so the fact that men process language on one side of the brain rather than on the other doesn’t mean that men hear better through one ear or the other.

“It shouldn’t be a surprise that there are differences between men and women,” Lurito says. “I think that’s a good thing, not a bad one. It could be pretty dull if men and women were the same.”

Nutrition Alternatives to Milk & Dairy Foods

Milk can do a body good, ensuring you get plenty of vitamin D and calcium. But if you’re training hard for an endurance event, fitness, figure, bodybuilding competition, or if you’re lactose-intolerant like me, milk may be the enemy. I can get away with a some dairy containing products, just not milk, and especially when my Crohn’s Disease is active dairy products are off limits. The good news is that you can still provide your body with all the nutrients it needs for a fracture-resistant skeleton without popping calcium supplements. These nondairy options are all excellent sources of the stuff your body needs to build strong bones.

Food: Broccoli / Bone-building nutrients: potassium, vitamin k

Food: Eggs / Bone-building nutrients: potassium, protein, vitamin D, vitamin K

Food: Fortified Orange Juice / Bone-building nutrients: calcium, ptotassium, vitamin C, vitamin D

Food: Pineapple / Bone-building nutrients: boron, potassium

Food: Shrimp / Bone-building nutrients: omega-3 fats, potassium, protein, vitamin D

Food: Almonds / Bone-building nutrients: calcium, magnesium, potassium

Healthy eating does a body good…PERIOD!!! Treat yourself with love, you only have one body, treat it right.

Best wishes to reaching your fitness goals and maintaining a healthy body for life.

God Bless!

Well first off I have to say “Thank you” to everyone for their love, support, prayers, and best wishes in regards to my battle with Crohn’s Disease.

For those of you who know my story you know that I was diagnosed with Crohn’s in June 2009 and was in the hospital in July 2009 due to crohn’s and nearly dying from the C.difficile infection. After spending 2 1/2 weeks in the hospital and finally being released I was on my road to recovery. I was doing good for a while. My crohn’s was manageable and close to remission for about 3-4 months. My weight even went back up to around 135-140lbs…mind you I was 97lbs when I got out the hospital. Talk about major muscle atrophy…being a bodybuilder that sort of thing can mess with your head…but I’m even more thankful to be alive. So like I said things were going pretty good, I was back in the gym working out, nothing too serious but it was a start to getting back on track that revolved around my condition. Then around Christmas time is when my Crohn’s flared back up again…the symptoms like MANY bowel movements (diarrhea), abdominal pain, chronic fatigue, night sweats, no sleep at night, loss of appetite, weight loss all began to happen again. I of course was not sure how long this was gonna last. I spent my New Years at home in bed along with the next 3 1/2 months (Jan-Mid April 2010). I had enough energy maybe a few hours out the day to do stuff that may need to get done and going to the gym was not one of them. Some days just getting up to take a shower and wash my hair was enough for me that day. I’ve done a lot of watching TV that’s for sure.

I see my GI doctor quite often and have to follow up with blood & stool tests to keep track of what’s going on….especially while my crohn’s is active in a flare up. In March my doc calls me up on a Mon. (3/22/10) after my blood tests came back to tell me I’m Anemic, and calls me on Wed. (3/24/10) after my stool tests came back to tell me I have the C. difficile infection again. The c.diff is an infection of the intestines and can become fatal if not taken care of. So she prescribed me to take Vancomycin which cost me $233.00 for a month supply…OUCH!! The bad thing about this was that I had to cancel my Infusion Treatment appt. that I had finally got approved from my insurance. They will not do the infusion if you have an infection. My weight loss again took me down to about 109lbs, by the end of my month treatment for the infection I was back up to about 119lbs, and my follow up tests showed the infection gone. Good news now I can start my infusion therapy…I set that appt. up real quick which was on April 30th and went real well and my next appt. is May 14th. This is great because I was really sick and in need of this infusion therapy to put me back into remission.

As of right now I’m feeling really good and feel my life coming back together again. Thank God!! I actually started feeling good again in the middle of April after 3 1/2 months of being really sick this is such a ray of light to me. After 3 months of being on a new drug treatment it seems that it had finally started to kick in….normally they say 6 months to kick in and I’m thankful that it kicked in before that…6 months is too long. But this drug in combination with my infusions should work wonders. Remission here I come.

I’m on my way back…I’m so excited about getting my health & fitness back on track again. I choose to always remain positive no matter how bad I feel, keep my faith & hope in God and He will see me through allowing me to be here to share myself with you wonderful people.

Sorry so long…that’s what I get for not posting continual updates

For those who have not read or know my story read my blog here “Tonia Moore knocked out of competition….due to Crohn’s Disease!!”

and it’s all just small stuff…BE the CHANGE you want to see in your life.

~Do u know “THAT SOMEONE” that’s negative & complains all the time? COMPLAINS about the news, the neighbors, that they’re not in shape, that they’re bored, nothing to do, complains about their Doctors, animals, friends, co-workers, employment, money, their Life in general, etc..not to mention is a “Score Keeper” of things they do for others then complains that they’re unappreciated or taken advantage of. That is just too much negativity how can anything be positive in their life. All sounds like wasted negative energy if u ask me. Be THANKFUL for ur Blessings & each day God has given you because we’re not promised tomorrow.

**The following is taken from a book I have called “DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF…and it’s all small stuff [Simple ways to keep the little things from taking over your life]

WHEN IN DOUBT ABOUT WHOSE TURN IT IS TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH, GO AHEAD AND TAKE IT OUT

If we’re not careful, it’s easy to become resentful about all the responsibilities of daily living. Once, in a very low mood, I figured out that on an average day, I do over 1,000 different things. Of course, when I’m in a better mood, that number is sigificantly lower.

As I think about it, it’s astounding to me how easy it is for me to remember all the chores that I do, as well as all the other responsibilities that I take care of. But, at the same time, it’s easy for me to forget all the things that my wife does on a daily basis. How convenient!

It’s really difficult to become a contented person if you’re keeping score of all you do. Keeping track only discourages you by cluttering your mind with who’s doing what, who’s doing more, and so forth. If you want to know the truth about it, this is the epitome of “small stuff.” It will bring you far more joy to your life to know that you have done your part and someone else in your family has one less thing to do, than it will to worry and fret over whose turn it it to take out the trash.

The strongest argument against this strategy is the concern that you’ll be taken advantage of. This mistake is similar to believing it’s important that you’re right. Most of the time it’s not important that you’re right, and neither is it important if you take the trash out a few more times than your spouse or housemate. Making things like garbage less relevant in your life will undoubtedly free up more time and energy for truly important things. {end}

Me, me, me, I, I, I….making things so personal, and so serious. Things aren’t always about you. Relax a little…I’m just saying.

God Bless!

Well I’m just sitting here at home relaxing. I’ve been to the gym twice this week which was the first in about 2 weeks. Since around Christmas I’ve been dealing with symptoms from a slight flare up of my Crohn’s Disease some days are better than others so it’s touch and go. I went to the doctor on Jan. 5th and he said my crohn’s is active again and he recommends a more aggressive treatment of drugs. We’ll see how I feel by Jan. 21st when I see my regular after her return from vacation (other doctor I saw was my doctors colleague in the office). I’m not too excited about having to go on the treatment he is recommending which is infusion or injection treatment. The drugs can be a plus and a minus. Ideally the vitamins I am taking now will help put my body and cells back into balance that will take care of the underlying issues of Crohn’s Disease. I keep my mind hopeful and positive in beating this and not being on long term medication treatment. That is my ultimate goal anyway. The medication I’m on has me really fatigued so my energy levels suck big time. Next week I believe I’ll be feeling much better to get back on my training regimen again so I continue my journey of getting back in shape and my health back on track. Just fighting through my low energy levels is the major task for me. I will keep you all posted of my status.

I always am grateful for everyone’s support in my journey & battle with my disease. You feed my motivation to keep going and never give up. I believe there is always HOPE!!

Best wishes, have a great weekend.

TM: Yes I just had a Revelation about Contamination….I found this information below - something that has not really come across my brain till just now.

Universal Waste

Batteries, light bulbs, electronic devices and items containing mercury: together, these things are known as Universal Waste. By California law, these items may not be placed in the regular trash. That’s because chemicals from Universal Waste can eventually find their way into the environment, contaminating our air, our water, and even the food we eat. EXAMPLES OF UNIVERSAL WASTE

TM: See that?? It said our WATER, and even the FOOD we eat…scary thought. No wonder people get sick and have health issues. It’s bad enough & not a secret that our environment & air is contaminated. But this is another issue to be concerned about and we must apply thoughtful consideration to this matter and act responsibly to help out as much as we can. It all starts with each of us as an individual. Participate in safe universal waste disposal for a healthier environment…at least as much as possible. Every little bit counts.

Thanks!! God Bless!!
